    ADTA Monthly Membership Meeting
2nd Thursday evening of each month, 7pm
Open to members, friends, family, and the public.

June's topic: Introduction to Shotguns, Dry Practice

Join us for this informative, hands-on introduction to using shotguns for defense.  Topics will include a discussion of shotgun types, loading and unloading processes, shotgun carry and stance positions, shotgun firing positions, and basic shotgun techniques with an emphasis on close-quarters shooting and home defense.

ADTA members are encouraged to bring their cased, unloaded shotguns to this event -- several cleared shotguns will also be provided for practice during this seminar, including inert practice guns.

Presented by ADTA member Chad Hiatt.

ADTA Range Safety Officers (RSOs) will be present to assist.  If you normally carry a firearm, you are welcome to do so at this event.  Loaded carry firearms must remain holstered -- no exceptions.  If you would like to bring a firearm to show to the group, or you would like to participate in our hands-on exercises, our Range Safety Officers will help you safely unload and clear your firearm at the door.

Have a question about ADTA membership, events, or activities?  Many ADTA members are available both before and after the presentation to help.

    Special Live-Fire Event
Open to current ADTA Monthly or Annual Members only.
    West Coast Armory, Factoria

    Schedule

    9:30am - 10:00am   Setup, welcome, overview
    10:00am - 12:00pm Instructor-Led Shotgun Live-Fire
12:00pm - 1:00pm   Lunch and open range time
    1:00pm - 2:20pm     Shoot House pistol configuration
    2:20pm - 2:30pm     Cleanup

    Overview

We'll be going right into shotgun live-fire drills; it's highly advised that you attend our free, public seminar on shotgun dry-practice, terminology, stances, and positions on June 13th before attending this session.

You'll have the opportunity to move at a pace comfortable for you with both our shotgun and handgun event portions.  Feedback from prior participants suggests all skill levels above novice are welcome; if you're new to firearms and shooting in general, this is not an appropriate starting course.

    Suggested Materials

If you have a shotgun to bring, please do so -- bring it cased and unloaded.  Range rules require the use of lead buckshot or lead slugs; no birdshot.  The ADTA will have some Rio-brand 2.75" 12 gauge 00 low-recoil buckshot rounds available for members to use at $5 per box of 5 rounds.  Most participants will use 50 to 70 rounds of shotgun ammunition.

For the shoot house configuration in the afternoon, please bring either your semiautomatic handgun and extra magazines, or your revolver and at least two speedloaders, along with an appropriate muzzle-down belt holster and magazine or speedloader pouches.  The West Coast Armory Law Enforcement bay offers a unique opportunity for us to configure a fairly large series of corners, doorways, and movement (with targets in the designated safe direction) to help you learn effective techniques difficult to practice on smaller ranges.  Most participants will use 100 to 150 rounds of handgun ammunition.

    Arrival Instructions

At 9:30am, the exterior single door adjacent to the roll-up door on the east end of the driveway will be open for ADTA members.  You will be greeted by an ADTA Range Safety Officer within the hallway beyond the door, who will help direct you to clear and holster your pistol, and provide instructions on the venue.

FWPD Cmdr Kyle Sumpter on Gun Safety and Situational Awareness

The Federal Way Police Department is a valued part of our community with practical experience and insights developed through their professional work.  Join us for an informative discussion as our special guest, Federal Way PD Commander Kyle Sumpter, talks about the FWPD's professional considerations regarding both gun safety and situational awareness in their work.
Cmdr. Sumpter is in charge of firearms and deadly force training within the Federal Way Police Department.  This seminar is not a training program, but you'll come away with valuable points to consider in your own personal approaches to gun safety and awareness.

Our regular monthly membership meeting also includes updates on ADTA activities, upcoming events, and general club member discussions.  Have a question on your ADTA membership or renewal, or would you like to sign up?  We'll have people able to help you at the end of our regular meeting.

Paintball Sports Park is $65 per person, including gun rental, safety gear rental, 1,000 rounds of ammunition, and associated equipment and use of the field.

We're planning on starting at 10am!

Sign up for this event to indicate your interest, and we'll coordinate for the group as appropriate.

Outdoor Covered Picnic Area and Playground

Forgive us if we show up paint-splattered, a little sore, and grinning -- we'll have just come from our informal paintball get-together this same morning in Puyallup (and you're welcome to join!).

We're getting together for a midafternoon member-hosted BBQ at Brooklake's picnic area.  All are welcome!  If you'd like to attend, please RSVP, so that as the date approaches we can help coordinate who can bring what -- all attendees are asked to contribute a food or drink item (no alcohol, please).  We're also looking for tailgate BBQers willing to feed a small crowd if we chip in the supplies.
