Introduction to IDPA and Hands-On Workshop

Presented by special guest Rick Breneman

Northwest Regional IDPA
International Defensive Pistol Association

Accomplished IDPA competitor, Safety Officer/Instructor, regional event coordinator, and co-host of the gun and shooting podcast The Powerfactor Show Rick Breneman brings his expertise to ADTA to introduce you to the shared learning and pistol practice opportunities of the International Defensive Pistol Association.

As an organization, IDPA produces regular, specific-series and timed competition courses of fire at many local area ranges.  IDPA strives to provide each participant feedback on their performance to evaluate for improvement, as well as to recognize growth and exceptional accomplishments.  Rick will be introducing the premises of IDPA, the types of exercises conducted, and the value of the stress that competition can place you under.

ADTA's and IDPA's programs complement each other well.  ADTA focuses on an overall mindset for self-defense, a broad skill set for self-defense, and building firearms skills in an engaged group environment.  IDPA is a forum specifically for putting your growing firearms skills to the challenge.

In addition to his presentation, at this event Rick will be configuring and demonstrating an IDPA course of fire, which he'll demonstrate with training pistols, and which you'll be able to experience, yourself!

This event will be followed later in the month with Rick hosting an actual IDPA live-fire course exclusively for ADTA members at the Renton Fish & Game Club's IDPA action range.

ADTA Range Safety Officers (RSOs) will be present to assist.  If you normally carry a firearm, you are welcome to do so at this event.  Loaded carry firearms must remain holstered -- no exceptions.  If you would like to bring a firearm to show to the group, or you would like to participate in our hands-on exercises, our Range Safety Officers will help you safely unload and clear your firearm at the door.

Have a question about ADTA membership, events, or activities?  Many ADTA members are available both before and after the presentation to help.
