Overview

We'll be going right into shotgun live-fire drills; it's highly advised that you attend our free, public seminar on shotgun dry-practice, terminology, stances, and positions on June 13th before attending this session.

You'll have the opportunity to move at a pace comfortable for you with both our shotgun and handgun event portions.  Feedback from prior participants suggests all skill levels above novice are welcome; if you're new to firearms and shooting in general, this is not an appropriate starting course.

Suggested Materials

If you have a shotgun to bring, please do so -- bring it cased and unloaded.  Range rules require the use of lead buckshot or lead slugs; no birdshot.  The ADTA will have some Rio-brand 2.75" 12 gauge 00 low-recoil buckshot rounds available for members to use at $5 per box of 5 rounds.  Most participants will use 50 to 70 rounds of shotgun ammunition.

For the shoot house configuration in the afternoon, please bring either your semiautomatic handgun and extra magazines, or your revolver and at least two speedloaders, along with an appropriate muzzle-down belt holster and magazine or speedloader pouches.  The West Coast Armory Law Enforcement bay offers a unique opportunity for us to configure a fairly large series of corners, doorways, and movement (with targets in the designated safe direction) to help you learn effective techniques difficult to practice on smaller ranges.  Most participants will use 100 to 150 rounds of handgun ammunition.

Arrival Instructions

At 9:30am, the exterior single door adjacent to the roll-up door on the east end of the driveway will be open for ADTA members.  You will be greeted by an ADTA Range Safety Officer within the hallway beyond the door, who will help direct you to clear and holster your pistol, and provide instructions on the venue.
