Center Axis Relock (CAR) system and High Hold Extended Grip

VENUEFederal Way Indoor Range

This live shoot will include two 1-hour segments: Center Axis Relock (CAR) system and high hold extended grip for distance engagement.  All shooters will go through both segments.

Instructor Wu (segment for near distance engagement)

We will review and continue training in the Center Axis Relock (CAR) system with emphasis on the extended and combat high positions.  This system was developed for close quarter combat with an emphasis on gun retention.  We will do four plus two shot strings, so bring extra ammo and magazines.

Instructor Steve T. (segment for distance engagement)

We will be going through 4 different modules: grip, stance, presentation from the holster, mag change and the culmination of those 4 modules into the anticipation drill at the end.  The four key elements or modules are needed to do the anticipation drill safely so it will be combined into one presentation.
There will be a good amount of repetition so we can get muscle memory to link in with our brains.

ATTENTION:  Shooters, if your pistol has a magazine disconnect, bring a dummy magazine, or one of your extra magazines can be loaded full of dummy rounds at the shoot to use for the drill.

For members who don't know if their pistol has a magazine disconnect, one way to check is insert an empty magazine into the pistol, after you rack the slide, take the magazine out, point the muzzle in a safe direction and pull the trigger, does the trigger go click?  If no click, you have a magazine disconnect.

For safety, be sure there is no ammo in the pistol’s chamber or magazine when you do this this test. This should only be done with an empty gun NO AMMUNITION.

For this ADTA live event, we'll be including scored exercises that you can use to track your own progress and skill improvement throughout 2016 -- we hope to see you at all of our ADTA member shoots to keep your skills current and practiced!

Space is limited and online preregistration and payment are required; you must be a current annual, charter, or monthly ADTA member to participate in live-fire events.

If you are comfortable with safely handling and shooting your semiautomatic handgun, we welcome you to participate in this live-fire event appropriate for a broad range of skill levels.

If you need a little more time to practice with your handgun to get comfortable with it, or to be able to reliable hit your target, we encourage you to reach out to us and arrange one-on-one time with an ADTA Mentor prior to this event.

ADTA Mentor Program

  1. Must be an Annual Member to participate with an ADTA Mentor.

  2. Reach out for a mentor at the workshops, or e-mail us at membership@armeddefense.org.

  3. All ADTA Mentors are ADTA Range Safety Officers.

  4. Your ADTA Mentor will schedule directly with you, to agree upon a time to meet at a local shooting range.

  5. You will be responsible for the range and ammunition costs (typically $40 to $50 per mentoring session).

In addition to your eye and ear protection, all participants need to bring their own semiautomatic handgun, strong-side muzzle-down belt holster, at least two magazine belt pouches, at least two magazines, and 100 to 150 rounds of ammunition.  Optional: a tactical flashlight.

If you do not yet have the appropriate equipment, let us know at any of our upcoming workshops, and we can help direct you to appropriate sources and materials you can purchase before the event.
