Would you like to learn how to safely operate and accurately shoot a handgun? Participate in our hands-on Introduction!
ADTA is dedicated to developing practical and responsible self-defense skills in a friendly, welcoming group of volunteers of all levels of experience. Several times each year, we welcome everyone -- members, guests, and you -- to come to our free hands-on workshops to learn:
- The Four Essentials of Gun Safety
- The Basics of How Guns Work
- How to Safely Load and Unload a Handgun
- Hit The Target: The Four Basics of Stance, Grip, Sights, and Trigger
ADTA workshops are safe and interactive, taught by our experienced members and volunteers, and open to everyone. Participants under 18 are welcome when accompanied and attended by a parent or guardian who can assist them as they learn throughout the program.
Following our workshop, we encourage you to schedule and participate with an ADTA mentor for additional live-fire instruction and self-paced practice at our local community gun ranges. We make it easy to learn! ADTA mentors are volunteers, and part of our non-profit association, and a local range visit fee and a handgun rental are both very economical.
ADTA Mentor Program
-
Must be an Annual Member to participate with an ADTA Mentor.
-
Reach out for a mentor at the workshops, or e-mail us at membership@armeddefense.org.
-
All ADTA Mentors are ADTA Range Safety Officers.
- Your ADTA Mentor will schedule directly with you, to agree upon a time to meet at a local shooting range.
-
You will be responsible for the range and ammunition costs (typically $40 to $50 per mentoring session).
Are you already a capable shooter, ready to share your experience and skills with others? Participate in our workshop as an ADTA Mentor!
Part of what makes ADTA great is our hands-on, one-on-one approach to helping everyone learn and develop firearm skills. At our Introduction workshop, if you're an intermediate or advanced shooter, we'll welcome you to step aside with us for the first portion of the workshop. In our side session, we'll introduce you to the straightforward mentor's curriculum, and provide tips on helping participants with the interactive portion of the workshop. At the interactive segment, you'll be able to work directly with one or more learners to help them try and practice the fundamental skills they'd been introduced to in the opening presentations.
If you're already an ADTA Range Safety Officer, and you have interest and availability in helping any of workshop participants in a one-on-one live-fire session at the local range, following the workshop we'll help people connect and schedule -- let us know!
